Fatal Hit and Run: I-55 North at Beasley / Adkins Boulevard near Exit 102B

UPDATE: 09/16/2016 11:54am The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

UPDATE: 09/15/2016 9:15am This incident has been cleared.  Traffic is moving normally in the area.  Jackson Police are still investigating the death of the man found this morning.

UPDATE: 09/15/2016 9:10am Delays are now listed at 15 minutes as traffic has been diverted.  However, the highway is still blocked as the site is still the scene of an active investigation.

UPDATE: 09/15/2016 8:21am The Jackson Police Department is identifying the victim as a white male pedestrian.  He was hit by several unidentified vehicles.  JPD says the  accident remains under investigation.

UPDATE: 09/15/2016  8:19am Delays have been reduced to approximately 20 minutes.

UPDATE: 09/15/2016 8:05am MDOT says that traffic on I-55 southbound is now affected as well as the right shoulder is blocked.

UPDATE: 09/15/2016 7:55am Law enforcement personnel are still directing traffic at the scene.  Delays of up to 55 minutes are expected.


UPDATE: 09/15/2016 7:32am MDOT says that traffic delays of up to an hour are still expected in the area.

UPDATE: 09/15/2016 6:55am All traffic is being detoured at the Beasley Road Exit.  The JPD says all northbound lanes from Beasley to County Line remain closed.

UPDATE: 09/15/2016 6:40am  The Jackson Police Department says the site is the scene of a fatal hit and run accident.

The body of a man was found in a lane of traffic on I-55 north after being hit by an unknown vehicle.

JACKSON, MS (WJTV) – Traffic delays of up to an hour and thirty minutes are being reported along I-55 northbound at Beasley / Adkins Boulevard, near Exit 102B in Jackson.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is reporting all lanes are blocked at this time because of a crash.  Law enforcement personnel are directing traffic.

Drivers are advised to use extra caution in the are to protect themselves, anyone involved in the accident, and emergency responders on the scene.  There is no information about potential injuries.

WJTV will provide traffic updates as soon as they are available.
