Coroner: Death ruled accidental drowning for man found in Pearl River


RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) —  The Rankin County coroner has ruled that the man who was found in the Pearl River Thursday died from an accident drowning.

Reservoir Police said 67-year-old Phillip Wayne Jeffress died after his body was found in the water near Tommy’s Trading Post along Highway 43.

Authorities said it appears that he was fishing and went overboard.

Reservoir Police said a man’s body was found around 9:18 a.m Thursday. They received a call about a boat drifting between Ratliff Ferry and House Boat Island. They received a second call about a body near the boat.

Jeffress’ body was taken to the state crime lab for an autopsy.
