‘Fresh Savings’ initiative pushes community to eat healthier

PEARL, Miss. (WJTV) — Several organizations worked together together Friday morning to roll out its “Fre$h Savings” initiative.

The AARP Foundation said they worked with UnitedHealthcare and Kroger for the event.

The initiative is healthy food incentive program to encourage SNAP recipients to purchase more fruits and veggies at two new Kroger locations in the Metro.

Friday, organizers gathered at the Kroger in Pearl from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. for the event. Those who attended had the opportunity to tour Kroger’s produce section and see a cooking demonstration by a local farmer and chef, Nick Wallace.
