UPDATE: According Hattiesburg Police, federal authorities have given the all clear at the Federal courthouse. No injuries were reported
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WJTV) — Law enforcement officers have blocked off a stretch of Main Street in Downtown Hattiesburg.
Hattiesburg Police Lt. Jon Traxler said they were called to help back up U.S. Marshals at the Federal Courthouse located at 701 Main Street.
Traxler said their department was told that there was some type of bomb threat made; they were advised that the Marshals had a situation and needed assistance blocking off the building.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area until further notice.
FBI Public Affairs Specialist released this statement about the incident:
The FBI Jackson Division is aware of the situation in Hattiesburg, and we are responding with local and state law enforcement. We don’t have any further information at this point.
