NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) – The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is beefing up its anti-drunk-driving efforts by adding a patrol deputy assigned to catch people driving under the influence.
The Natchez Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/2ceYmow ) that the new DUI officer will be added in October and will be funded by a grant from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.
Three other patrol officers are being added with money from the Mississippi Department of Health.
Sheriff Travis Patten says he believes public knowledge that his department has a DUI officer will make people think before drinking and driving in Adams County.
Grants for the new officers total approximately $317,000, while the county match is $40,000. Patten said the grants are renewable annually.
