JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – It’s been a week since three Mississippi highway patrolmen were hurt in separate crashes.
One of the troopers from Troop M, Mitchell Chappell, remains at UMMC Hospital recovering.
Corporal Brandon Fortenberry says he is responding more daily.
On September 11th, Chappell was on his way to a crash in Bogue Chitto when his car hydroplaned.
He hit a tree on I-55 and lost consciousness.
A second trooper and third trooper crashed as well. Both were on the way to help Chappell out.
“The impact that you have among each other is such a strong brotherhood and sisterhood that it’s unbreakable. And that has shown with Mitchell’s situation. The family’s spirit is very high at this time. They want to thank everybody across the state for their prayers and concern.”
According to officials, the other two troopers were not seriously injured.
A donations account has been set up in trooper Mitchell Chappell’s name at Region’s Bank.
