OXFORD, Miss. (WJTV) — University of Mississippi officials removed a state flag that was flying in the stands at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday.
Ole Miss students and fans filled the stadium to see the football team take on the University of Alabama.
The Mississippi state flag was spotted in one of the sections in the stadium before the game. School officials tell WJTV they had the flag removed because banners of any kind along with poles are not permitted in the stadium, except for those approved by Ole Miss Event Management.
Officials said security and ushers were told to remove the flag and other signs that were raised. They were also blocking the views of other fans.
School officials said those who brought them inside the stadium were told that they would have to leave if they did not relinquish the items.
They also said that banners and signs that violated the policy and had the potential to obstruct views were collected, regardless of the message on the sign.
