UPDATE: 09/20/2016 8:19am Traffic is now backing up along I-20 east along I-55 south. A police car is blocking at least one lane of traffic.
UPDATE: 09/20/2016 7:36am WJTV’s Natay Holmes and Margaret-Ann Carter have spoken with the driver. He said that he has been driving for ten years and has never seen anything like this.
UPDATE: 09/20/2016 7:35am Emergency responders are still working to clear the truck from I-55. The traffic impact is still listed as “high.” Northbound and southbound traffic is impacted.
UPDATE: 09/20/2016 6:57am WJTV’s Margaret-Ann Carter has spoken with fire officials who say that they were able to get the driver out of the truck safely.
UPDATE: 09/20/2016 6:52am MDOT has upgraded the anticipated delays to three hours along the portion of I-55 affected by this morning’s vehicle fire.
UPDATE: 09/20/2016 6:18am MDOT estimates delays at 55 minutes. All southbound lanes of traffic are blocked.
JACKSON, Mississippi (WJTV) – A vehicle fire has traffic at a standstill on I-55 south at Daniel Lake.
What appears to be a large vehicle, possible a tractor trailer, is on fire. It is not known if multiple vehicles are involved or if it is just one vehicle.
There is no word on possible injuries at this time.
Emergency responders are on the scene.
