MADISON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Election day is around the corner and the voter registration deadline is a week away.
One group in Madison County worked to spread the word.
“We want to make sure we get some information out to you.”
Jonathan Townes and other gentlemen with the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity took to the streets in Canton spreading the word and helping people register to vote.
“We’ve just been issuing out voter information in regards to how they can send in the form or the information that they’ll need on voting day.”
The general election is set for Tuesday, November 8, 2016, but the last day to register to vote in for the next president is Saturday, October 8, 2016.
“This is your voice. It’s what you believe in and you have the opportunity to express it. Each and every one of us has the opportunity to research and specifically choose or vote for who we feel can do what we need them to do,” said Townes.
If you’ve recently moved, your voter registration information must be updated with proof of your new address.
“Ultimately put yourself in a position to have a voice whether it’s for the presidential election or for upcoming elections in regards to the governor or the mayor. Just have a voice and be able to express that voice,” said Townes.
You must bring a photo ID with you on Election Day
