JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Wingfield High School was the center of a Jiu Jitsu competition all in memory of a very special little girl.
Dozens came out to compete.
The event is called the Ella Armstrong Memorial Grappling Tournament.
Ella died suddenly a couple of years ago.
She herself once competed in this tournament.
“They call it the Ella Strong. Ella was my daughter who actually competed in this tournament a couple of years ago and passed away unexpectedly two years ago actually doing Jiu Jitsu class. So they have been kind and generous enough to always keep her memory alive and honor her name with this tournament,” said Jason Armstrong, Ella’s father.
Kids and adults competed at the event.
The money raised today by Vector Jiu Jitsu will go towards keeping more kids engaged in the community.
