AMORY, Miss. (WJTV) — The Amory police chief was assaulted while conducting a traffic stop Monday.
The police department made a post about the incident on its Facebook page.
Authorities said Chief Ronnie Bowen was making the traffic stop when a person in the vehicle got out of the car and assaulted him.
The suspect ran away from the scene on foot.
The chief and other officers went after the suspect and were able to capture the person.
Chief Bowen had to go to Merit Health Gilmore Hospital to be treated for injuries. He is expected to be okay.
The police department plans to release more information about the suspect Tuesday.
