VICKSBURG, Miss. (WJTV) — Vicksburg is taking another step towards becoming a tourist destination by adding a water park to the city.
City officials approved a $500,000 in state general obligation bonds for a proposed water park.
Mayor George Flaggs said he hopes Blue Beach Family Water Park will expand the tourism and recreational market in the city. He said the park would have a $102 million impact over the next 10 years.
“What this does is it allows you make Vicksburg a true tourism destination,” he said. “By being able to come in here, go and visit our Military Park, visit our gaming casinos, visit the City of Vicksburg, all of this history in Vicksburg, and then stay at least two days to see it all and enjoy themselves.”
The park will be on 20 acres of land near the outlet mall. Mayor Flaggs said the hopes to have it up and running by May 2018.
