BRANDON, Miss. (WJTV) — Some state departments are working with the Rankin County School District for Mississippi Farm to School Week.

Students at Highland Bluff Elementary in Brandon got the chance to meet and eat with guests from the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce and the Mississippi Department of Education.

Mississippi farmers participating in the Department of Defense Farm to School Program grew some of the featured lunch menu items and also came to the school.

Farm to School Week was created to encourage the serving of locally-grown and locally-raised agricultural products in school meals and to recognize the economic and health benefits of farm to school programs.
