MADISON, Miss. (WJTV) — Madison Police found a credit card skimmer at a gas station on Highway 463.
Police said they were alerted to the issue after a resident had said his credit card was used out of state. The resident told officers the unauthorized charges started occurring after he used his card at the Texaco/Kangaroo gas station on Highway 463.
Investigators went to the gas station to check the pump in question, and they found a skimming device. They located a second skimming device at another gas pump at the same gas station.
Madison Police said they are submitting the evidence to the Attorney General’s Office for forensic examination. Authorities said the devices are similar to the ones involved in a current credit card skimming investigation being conducted in the metro Jackson area.
Officers said they checked pumps at other gas stations and found no additional skimmers. Investigators are reviewing surveillance at the store as well to try to gather more evidence.
Residents should closely monitor their credit card account activity, and if they see suspicious charges occurring on their account, they should contact their credit card company immediately. Also, if these charges occurred shortly after the credit card was used at a gas pump they should contact the law enforcement jurisdiction where the gas station is located.
