Jackson Homicide #54: Gunshot victim found with hands bound inside burning home

UPDATE: 10/05/2016 11:28am JPD Commander Tyree Jones is asking anyone with information that may be helpful to their investigation to call Jackson Police at: (601) 960.1234 or the TIPS line at: (601) 355.TIPS (8477).

Commander Jones has issued the following statement:

“On Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at approx. 8:49 AM, Jackson Fire Department responded to the
100 block of Noel St. regarding a house fire. Upon their arrival, and rendering the scene safe,
they discovered what appeared to be a badly burned body within a bedroom of the structure. The
unidentified victim appeared to have its’ hands bound together with some type of wiring
material. Arson Investigators conducted an investigation and Jackson Police Department’s
Robbery/Homicide Detectives were summoned to the scene due to what appeared to be a
suspicious death.

The Coroner later arrived on scene and confirmed the unidentified victim suffered what appeared
to be at least one gunshot wound to the head. The gender of the victim could not be determined,
and Investigators are in the process of trying to identify the victim. There is no suspect
information at this time. This is the city’s 54th homicide investigation for 2016.
Anyone with any information regarding the identity of the victim, and/or any suspect information
regarding this investigation is urged to contact the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234
or 601-355-TIPS (8477).”

UPDATE: 10/05/2016 10:39am WJTV’s Terrance Friday say police plan to use dental records to determine the identity of the victim.


UPDATE: 10/05/2016 10:38am Investigators say that the body was burned so badly that they cannot yet identify the victim’s gender.



UPDATE: 10/05/2016 10:34am Police say the victim was shot in the head with his or her hands bound.  The fire is being ruled an arson.



UPDATE: 10/05/2016 10:32am Police are confirming that the investigation of the body found on Noel Street is being treated as a homicide.


UPDATE: 10/05/2016 10:28am  WJTV’s Terrance Friday is on the scene.  He says that the body has been removed from the scene.  Investigators are now working to collect evidence.


UPDATE: 10/05/2016 10:27am Jackson Police say that the Hinds County Coroner has confirmed that the body found inside the home shows that the deceased suffered at least one gunshot wound to the head.  This is now the 54th homicide of 2016.



UPDATE: 10/05/2016 10:13am The Hinds County Coroner has arrived on the scene.


UPDATE: 10/05/2016 10:10am Jackson Police say they are searching for clues regarding the fire and what is a “suspicious death.”

UPDATE: 10/05/2016 9:28am A body was found inside the home.  Authorities are not speculating as to the cause of death.  The coroner has been called to the scene.


Sources say the body was badly burned.

There is no word yet as to what may have caused the fire.  Officials say the home is vacant.  However, neighbors tell WJTV that although the home is considered to be abandoned, people do go in and out of the house.

JACKSON, Mississippi (WJTV) – Firefighters are on the scene of a fire at Noel Street and North Mill Street in Jackson.

WJTV’s Margaret-Ann Carter is on the scene.

Little information is known at this time.  There is no word on whether there are injuries or what may have caused the fire.
