CANTON, Miss.(WJTV) — A grand jury decided not to indict any Canton officers after a man died in police custody a few months ago.

Madison and Rankin Counties District Attorney Michael Guest said the grand jury decided last week not to indict any officers involved.

Carlos Brown died in police custody July 2. He was accused of stealing a police car from a nightclub on Hickory Street in Canton. He then allegedly drove to the Best Western Hotel on I-55.

Police caught up with him arrested him. Brown died at the scene after losing consciousness.

Officials said an autopsy determined that Brown had drugs in his system; there was no trauma to his body.

The cause of his death is undetermined, D.A. Guest said.
