Man charged with assault after alleged incident outside of Catholic Charities

JACKSON, Mississippi (WJTV) – A man is in police custody, accused of sexual assault in Jackson.

According to a written release issued by Jackson Police Department Commander Tyree Jones, officers responded to the Catholic Charities building located at 200 North Congress Street on Monday, October 3, 2016 at approximately 6:30pm after receiving a report of a sexual assault.

Officers spoke with a woman who alleged that she had been assaulted in the parking lot.  Based on her description police were able to locate the suspect a short time later.

He is being identified as 45-year-old Mitchell Lamar Drake.

He is being charged with sexual battery and is being held at the city jail.

Commander Jones said Drake’s bond was set at $50,000.
