Sheriff: Suspect deputies were searching for from Monday night standoff in custody

UPDATE: 10/11/2016 11:56am The Copiah County Sheriff Harold Jones says Charles Allen Knott is now in custody. Knott turned himself in.

UPDATE: 10/11/2016 5:04am The Copiah County Sheriff’s office says that the standoff ended at approximately 12:30am.  When they entered the home the suspect thought responsible for initiating the standoff, Charles Allen Knott, was not there.

As of this morning police are still searching for Knott.  Sheriff Jones says that he is a local man and does not believe that Knott has gone far.

HAZLEHURST, Miss. (WJTV) – The Copiah County Sheriff’s Department is involved in a standoff Monday evening.

Copiah County Sheriff Harold Jones says they were trying to serve a felony warrant to Charles Allen Knott, at a residence on Dentville Road, but is not complying with authorities.

The warrant is for shooting into a vehicle and a home invasion that happened Sunday, October 9, 2016 on Highway 472 in Copiah County.

Authorities have been on the scene since about 3:30 Monday afternoon.

There are no hostages; however, negotiators are on scene communicating with Knott by text.

Sheriff Jones says they have had to come out to this residence before in the past. He said that experience ended peacefully and he hopes this one does as well.

He also says they are willing to stay out all night to ensure that.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics are on the scene assisting with the standoff.
