JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – It is National Fire Prevention Week in Mississippi.
The fire marshal is encouraging neighbors to keep their smoke alarms up to date
This year’s slogan for the campaign is “Don’t Wait – Check the Date”.
A study from 2014 shows people from Mississippi were most likely to die in a house fire.
That’s why smoke alarms should be tested monthly.
Also the batteries should be replaced once a year.
Ten years is the expiration date for a smoke alarm.
To find out how old your smoke alarm is and its expiration date just look on the back of the alarm.
