Number of counties under burn bans increases October 12, 2016

UPDATE: 10/11/2016 11:06am The counties of Newton and Sharkey have been added.

UPDATE: 10/11/2016 10:05am Jefferson Davis County has been added to the list.

UPDATE: 10/11/2016 5:04am Neshoba and Yazoo have been added to the list.  A total of 46 counties now under a burn ban.

UPDATE: 10/10/2016 5:13pm  More counties have been added to the list.

UPDATE: 10/10/2016 1:43pm Adams and Sunflower counties have been added to the list.

JACKSON, Mississippi (WJTV) – The number and severity of grass fires that have ignited throughout the state of Mississippi has increased, and so has the number of burn bans in effect.

According to the Mississippi Forestry Commission, the following counties are now under a burn ban (note that this list has been updated since the latest update marked on this post):

  • Alcorn
  • Benton
  • Calhoun
  • Carroll
  • Chickasaw
  • Choctaw
  • Clay
  • Coahoma
  • Copiah
  • Grenada
  • Hinds
  • Holmes
  • Humphreys
  • Itawamba
  • Jefferson Davis
  • Kemper
  • Lafayette
  • Lauderdale
  • Lee
  • Lowndes
  • Madison
  • Marshall
  • Monroe
  • Montgomery
  • Neshoba
  • Newton
  • Noxubee
  • Oktibbeha
  • Panola
  • Pontotoc
  • Prentiss
  • Rankin
  • Scott
  • Sharkey
  • Simpson
  • Smith
  • Sunflower
  • Tallahatchee
  • Tate
