JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — The City of Jackson declared October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Mayor Tony Yarber and other city leaders presented a proclamation to Catholic Charities Tuesday.
Catholic Charities works to increase domestic violence awareness across Jackson.
“Well it it’s important because a great deal of men and women are suffering at the hand of physical and mental abuse,” Mayor Yarbe said. “Even if you ask police, they’ll tell you a great deal are domestic violence calls.”
