RIDGELAND, Miss. (WJTV) – The teenager killed in an Tuesday morning accident on the Natchez Trace Parkway attended Ridgeland High School, according to Madison County Schools Superintendent Dr. Ronnie McGehee.
The coroner said 15-year-old Zia Richardson died from her injuries. Park rangers said Zia was a passenger in the Volvo that got into a head-on collision with a truck.
Principal Tim Dowdy released the following statement about Zia:
The Ridgeland High School family has experienced a tragic loss in the death of one our students in an automobile accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. She will be missed dearly by her Titan family.”
Law enforcement officers responded to the scene on the Natchez Trace Parkway near Medgar Evers Blvd when the crash happened. The Trace was closed for hours as emergency crews cleared the scene.
The accident involved the Volvo and a pickup truck. Two people were taken to the hospital. Officials said at last check, the driver of the truck has been released; the driver of the Volvo is still in the hospital.
