COPIAH COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – An overnight fire in Copiah County leaves destruction in its path.
Even though the family lost some special belongings, they are thankful it did not spread to their home.
“We’re very thankful that God took care of us; he is still in control.”
Ray Blakeney and his wife say their greenhouse held the things they kept closest to their heart.
Things like antiques, prized plants and flowers and tools they used to raise miniature horses.
The fire then spread to the couple’s cars.
“We lost our truck,” said Blakeney.
“About 3:15, my wife woke up hearing a loud popping sound and she ran to the back door and she saw fire jumping from our greenhouse right here,” said Blakeney.
He says minutes later, his neighbors walked over to see what was happening and immediately jumped into action.
“Yes, we had a yard full of folks pumping water, doing anything they can, helping one another, that’s what it’s all about,” said Blakeney.
Blakeney says he’s thankful his friends, along with the volunteer fire department, were able to put out the fire before it spread to his home.
No one was hurt during the fire.
The cause of it is under investigation.
