Gov. Bryant talks about where he thinks $34M recovered by AG Hood should go

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Governor Phil Bryant is responding to the $34,000,000 the Attorney General says has been recovered.

Attorney General Jim Hood says the money has been delivered to the state treasury.

Governor Bryant told WJTV where he thinks that money should go.

“I commend him for working hard on that. I think that money should go into the Rainy Day Fund. We ought to put that in savings just now; so if we see further demands in January in government, we’ll have that,” said Gov. Bryant.

The attorney general’s office says the majority of that money is from a judgment against Sandoz Inc.

It’s a pharmaceutical manufacturer that defrauded the state.

Attorney General Jim Hood is encouraging the Mississippi legislature to use the money to offset budget shortfalls for state services.
