Husband and wife injured in collision between train and vehicle

UPDATE: 10/12/2016 12:32pm WJTV’s Beth Alexander reports that the JPD is confirming that the victims of the crash were husband and wife.  Their names have no officially been released at this time.




UPDATE: 10/12/2016 12:22pm Commander Tyree Jones says that the male driver injured in the crash is very critical and is being treated at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.  The woman sustained minor injuries.

He says that the car was travelling northbound on Columbia Avenue.  It approached the intersection near Bullard Street as the train was headed eastbound when the two collided.  The female passenger was able to escape the vehicle “either prior to or right at the time of the crash.”  He says that it is still too early to tell whether the car was moving when it was hit.  “The rest of the crash,” Commander Jones say, “is still under investigation.”

UPDATE: 10/12/2016 12:03pm JPD Commander Tyree Jones tells WJTV’s Beth Alexander that the driver, a male, is critically injured.  The passenger was a female, also injured – though it does not appear critically – in the crash.

UPDATE: 10/12/2016 11:57am Jackson Police are confirming now that one person was injured, and one critically injured, after a vehicle was hit by a train.  The crash is under investigation.



UPDATE: 10/12/2016 11:48am Multiple agencies have reposnded to the crash.  At least one person was injured, another critically.

Jackson, Mississippi (WJTV) Emergency responders are on the scene of a crash involving a train and a vehicle on Bullard Street and Columbia Avenue in Jackson.



The train tracks are located between Markham and Bullard streets.

There is no information available at this time as to the extent of injuries or the make and model or the vehicle involved.

WJTV has a crew on the scene.

We will provide more information as soon as it is available.
