COLUMBUS, Miss. (WJTV) – Newly released police records give more information on the arrest of a state representative earlier this week.
The records show that Representative Kabir Karriem is accused of hitting his daughter three times with a closed fist.
But there is still some disagreement over what exactly happened.
The Columbus Police Department arrested Karriem on a domestic violence charge.
He was later released on a recognizance bond.
One officer statement says that Karriem told the off-duty officer that he had hit his daughter but later claimed he never said that.
Another officer spoke with Karriem’s daughter who says she called 911 after her dad hit her.
The mother says she doesn’t know what happened in that fight because she was not there.
