20-year-old dies after accident on I-55 in Madison

LATEST UPDATE: Police have released the name of the person killed in a crash in Madison.

Police said 20-year-old Devon Mannery died at the scene.  The Madison Police Department is sending its condolences to the Mannery family and his friends.

Jackson State University officials confirmed that Mannery was a student at the school. He was also a member for the Sonic Boom of the South.

One person is dead after an accident on I-55 in Madison.

Madison Police said the accident happened near mile marker 108 around 11:03 a.m.

Officers said a delivery truck was headed northbound on I-55 past the Highway 463 exit in the right lane when a Chevy Impala passed the truck on the right shoulder of the roadway.

Officials said the Impala tried to attempt to cut in front of the truck when two vehicles collided. The Impala went into the left lane and stopped in the center median after flipping two times.

The driver of the Impala was ejected and died at the scene. The driver of the delivery truck was not injured.

The name of the victim has not been released at this time.

The accident has been cleared.

All lanes are blocked in this area.

The accident has all southbound lanes blocked on I-55 before the Highway 463 exit.

Drivers should avoid this area.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said this could affect traffic for the next two hours.

Law enforcement officers are on the scene directing traffic.
