JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson State University is mourning the loss of a 20-year-old student.
Devon Mannery died yesterday in a crash on I-55 in Madison County.
Police say that Mannery tried to pass a truck on the right shoulder and when he cut back in front of the truck, the two collided.
Mannery’s Chevrolet Impala went into the median where it rolled twice.
JSU students remember the Sonic Boom of the South player as a positive person.
“He was a brother to all of us that came in in 2014, for us to lose him is really hard for all of us. Not just the people that he marched with, but everybody,” said Curtez Rasool, a Sonic Boom of the South band member.
“He was always you know a real positive person he made you almost want to do the best that you could just by watching him,” Christopher Stewart, a Sonic Boom of the South band member.
The university released a statement on Twitter asking everyone to keep Mannery’s friends and family in their prayers.
