JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — A man accused of being involved in a robbery using a Spiderman costume has been sentenced.
Jonathan Dukes and two others were arrested in 2014 for the armed robbery of two business.
Dukes along with Trevaughn Dukes and Merlin Johnson were taken into custody after a Shell gas station and a Waffle House were robbed. Police said one of the robbers used a Spiderman mask to conceal his identity during one of the robberies.
Jonathan Dukes appeared in court Tuesday before Judge Jeff Weill in Hinds County. He will have to serve 20 years behind bars with five years of post-release supervision.
Judge Weill said he remembers Duke appearing in his courtroom once before.
“I remember you,” he said. “And you promised that you’d behave yourself, you were so grateful for an opportunity, and you blew it.”
“Your victims of your crimes were out trying to make a living and support their families, and you decided to do the easy thing and not work and just go out there and grab a gun and rob them at gunpoint, and no doubt scared them to death,” Judge Weill said.
