VICKSBURG, Miss. (WJTV) — Two officers and others were injured in a three-car crash in Vicksburg.
Captain Sandra Williams of Vicksburg Police said the accident happened near Clay and Hayes streets. Police said a man was trying to run from police when he hit a police cruiser. A total of four people, including the man eluding police and two officers, were injured.
Officers Junior Magloire and Maria Grady were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries. The civilian driving the other car was also treated at a hospital. Since then, everyone has been released, except the person who was running from police. He is being treated for other medical issues.
Police went to an apartment complex Tuesday night after they received a call about someone trying to commit suicide. They arrived on the scene, a man got into a car and drove off. We’re told he almost hit a police car and kept going.
Then, Officers Magloire and Grady were also called to the scene. They saw him on Hayes Street. That’s when the man hit the police cruiser head-on, police said. We’re told officers then went onto Clay Street and were hit by the civilian’s car.
The person running from police was finally taken into custody after hitting the cruiser several times and crashing into a pole.
His name has not been released at this time due to the pending investigation.
