Scene cleared after strong ammonia odor reported at Jackson housing complex

UPDATE: Cleotha Sanders of the Jackson Fire Department said the scene has cleared. The building is safe for entry. Residents have returned back to their apartments.

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — First responders and emergency officials are on the scene of a housing complex on Forest Avenue after reports of a strong odor.

Commander Tyree Jones of Jackson Police said officers were responding to the NCBA Housing Estates of Jackson after they received calls about a strong ammonia odor.

WJTV crews on the scene spotted dozens of people standing outside the units.

JPD, the Jackson Fire Department, and AMR are currently on the scene. WJTV is working to get you answers about the situation.
