JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Police are sending a strong warning to the public. They are asking you to keep an eye out for a man accused of kidnapping a woman in Jackson and trapping her in a house for several days.
Police say the woman escaped that house Wednesday night and was screaming for help. Once she told them what happened, they immediately started looking for the man accused of doing it.
“Our number one priority and our goal at this point is to get Marcus Baker off the street,” Commander Tyree Jones said.
A 19-year-old girl was held against her will at a house on McCluer Road for two days.
“She is recovering at this time,” Jones said. “She is a victim of a crime, and of course this is a traumatic event for her we are not identifying her.”
The kidnapping happened Monday night around 9 p.m. on Capitol Street.
The 19-year-old says she was approached at gunpoint by 32-year-old Marcus Baker. Police said he also goes by Marcus Butler.
“We don’t have any information or any evidence at this particular point to link this suspect and victim together,” Jones said. “The only thing we have is that she was approached while walking down the street. He had a gun and forced her into a vehicle.”
The woman was locked in a bathroom and told authorities that she didn’t even know Baker. People living in the area say it’s hard to believe something like that happened.
Police said Baker has a criminal history, though they wouldn’t elaborate on exactly what that history includes. He also may be wanted in another state.
