Hundreds of books given away at neighborhood festival

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Hundreds of books went home with both the young and old at Jane Avenue Community Center.

Saturday was the center’s annual October Fest.

Folks from around the neighborhood gathered for free food, music, face painting, and games.

Free health screenings were also available to the community.

For the past 10 years, the Circle of Color Cook Club has teamed up with the center to promote the importance of reading.

The group hosted a reading fair, where they gave away books and magazines at October Fest.

“Reading is so important, and we try at every opportunity to reach our community. We are using this as an opportunity to get books into the hands of our children. Today we’ve given over 500 books to children and adults,” President of Circle of Color Book Club Margaret Bullocks said.

The Jane Avenue Center also hosted a talent show at Saturday’s festival.
