JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Attorney General Jim Hood spoke about the Hinds County District Attorney case.
A pre-trial hearing was just held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016.
Robert Shuler Smith’s attorney asked for charges to be thrown out
Attorney Jim Waide argued a special prosecutor should be appointed to the case instead of the attorney general’s office.
He believes Attorney General Hood is targeting Smith.
The attorney general responded to allegations surrounding the case.
“I can’t comment on them. You know we have to make our defenses and do our prosecution in the courtroom and in this case, we hope it will be very soon,” said Attorney General Hood.
The judge did rule the indictment handed down to District Attorney Smith stands.
Smith is accused of helping Christopher Butler, a criminal defendant facing embezzlement and drug charges.
