PIKE COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) — Pike County deputies arrested an inmate Wednesday who escaped custody in Amite County over a week ago.
Pike Investigators said they went to the Dollar General Store on Highway 98 East around 2:04 a.m. after the alarm at the store went off.
When they arrived on the scene, they found the door slightly opened; they heard someone moving near the woods. They said they saw a man laying on the ground. He got up and tried to run.
Deputies took Michael Young into custody after a short foot chase.
Authorities said they recovered tools, a face mask, a backpack a stolen speaker. They also said Young damaged the sliding door.
The Mississippi Department of Corrections said the 42-year-old escaped the Amite County jail Saturday, October 15. Young was sentenced on Sept. 19 for possession of a weapon by a felon and escape in Franklin County, and received two five-year sentences running concurrently.
