Residents react to muggings in Jackson neighborhood

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson Police are on the hunt for a purse snatcher.

There have been two recent muggings that now has one person in the hospital.

We’re told the crimes happened at the Carleton Apartments in the Northpointe Subdivision.

Andi Barbrey says she loves to walk through her Northpointe neighborhood but she hates the news she heard recently.

“Unfortunately, we do live in Jackson; we are aware of the crime in our city,” said Barbrey.

Jackson Police say they are investigating two recent incidents involving purse snatching; all happening at the Carleton Apartments about two weeks ago.

Detectives say one victim is in the hospital.

They are unsure about the extent of her injuries.

“That’s really unfortunate,” said Barbrey.

Barbrey says she is always cautious and aware of her surroundings when walking.

Despite these recent acts of violence, she says, her community is a pretty safe one but sometimes you will have your occasional bad apple.

“Jackson is a great place to live and it is unfortunate that people stoop to that level,” said Barbrey.

WJTV reached out to the apartment complex in hopes of finding out if they are planning to beef up security; we were told the manager will not be back in until Friday, October 28, 2016.
