Rules about taking photos inside voting polls

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – If you plan on pulling a Justin Timberlake and snapping a photo of yourself voting in the elections, Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann warns that you could face a penalty.

He says the law doesn’t exactly use the word “selfie” which is what Timberlake did.

However, taking a picture of a completed ballot is a crime.

Taking a picture with the ballot, before you fill it out, is okay.

“There’s plenty of room for selfies at concerts and things, you don’t necessarily need to do that. The biggest thing you need is one of those stickers saying I voted,” said Secretary Hosemann.

Hosemann says the law is to make sure people aren’t taking a picture to show they voted for someone and then getting paid for it.

Your vote will still count if you take the photo but the punishment you will face is determined by each county.
