Prentiss toddler among 3 killed after chase by sheriff’s deputy

COLLINS, Miss. (AP) – Three people, including a toddler, have been killed in a crash after the car they were riding in was being chased by police.

Covington County Coroner Chris Daquila said in a statement that 2-year-old Jeremiah Barnes, 33-year-old Yshaneeta Magee and 22-year-old Chiquita Barnes Flowers, all of Prentiss, died following the chase on Tuesday.

Authorities say a Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy tried to pull over a vehicle driven by Brandon Flowers for a traffic stop, but he sped off. The deputy pursued the vehicle into Covington County.

Officials say Brandon Flowers lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the road and struck a tree. Barnes and Magee died at the scene. Chiquita Flowers later died at a hospital.

Daquila says Brandon Flowers was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
