(WJTV) — The National Park Service said the extreme drought is causing problems with the pavement on the Natchez Trace Parkway in Mississippi.
Officials said drivers should be aware of the issues.
They said the drought had caused severe cracking and movement on the roadway in many areas in the Mississippi sections of the Natchez Trace. The movement in the pavement surface is due to shrinkage of the underlying soils, they said.
The roadway can be especially dangerous for motorcycle drivers.
Conditions could worsen as the drought continues. They are asking drivers to use caution and watch for the areas of the pavement that have moved.
Maintenance crews are making repairs to the areas that require immediate attention.
