Jackson, Miss. (WJTV) – The superintendent of Jackson Public Schools made the announcement tonight that he will be resigning.
WJTV’s Byron Brown was at the school board meeting tonight when president Dr. Beneta Burt gave the news.
This comes after a the school board had a meeting to evaluate Dr. Cedrick Gray. We’re told Gray verbally gave his intent to resign and the board gave a verbal acceptance. The board expects him to send a letter of resignation next week.
At this time – we do not know when his last day will be. We’re told the school district will work out the details in next Tuesday’s meeting. They also have to figure out the rest of his compensation. Gray has two years left on his contract. He makes over $200,000 a year.
The school board will also be working to find someone to step in as the JPS superintendent.
WJTV will continue to follow this story and bring you updates.
