JACKSON, Mississippi (WJTV) – An active shooter drill at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) is causing alarm and confusion this morning.
Staff at the UMMC sent out a text message saying that there was an active shooter on campus, and that it was not a drill. That message, however, was a mistake, according to Director of Public Relations Marc Rolph.
Rolph says it was a weekly test and campus police “did what they were supposed to do.” However, the omission of the fact that it was a drill caused many to worry.
Everything at UMMC this morning, Rolph says, is fine.
