VICKSBURG, Miss. (WJTV) – A man says he was protecting his property when he a shot a man outside his Vicksburg home.
Chris Carter is rocked by the scary news he heard this Halloween morning.
“This neighborhood is quiet…you hardly see people walk out here,” said Carter.
Vicksburg Police say a homeowner on Drummond Street, shot a man, after he said the person tried to break into his car, which was in his yard.
According to the state castle doctrine, it allows someone to use deadly force when defending themselves from a murder or felony and this includes someone’s home and even car.
Carter says he is on the fence about the law and the incident.
“You know it’s two sides of every story, so it all depends what the person was doing to cause that to happen,” said Carter. “If the homeowner felt like he was in harm, then possibly but if for no reason at all…no.”
The man that was shot was transported to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Police say this is an ongoing investigation.
