JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson Police are investigating after someone smashed a giant hole in a gas station wall early Tuesday morning and burglarized the store.
Customers say they are concerned after seeing the damage to the store.
“It’s getting a little out of hand.”
Store owners are left with a big mess after someone breaks in by breaking a huge hole in the back of the business.
They got in through the bathroom wall and made their way into the store.
Customer David Daugherty says he goes to the Raceway Gas Station, on Clinton Blvd., almost every day.
“It’s sad that you have to be concerned about a business and people taking things the wrong way; they can’t go out and get a job to earn their money,” said Daugherty.
Surveillance video shows someone behind the counter rummaging through the store.
It happened before 4:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.
“It’s kind of surprising in this neighborhood, at this store especially. There’s usually people here 24-7. It’s kind of strange and makes you a little nervous, things around here are getting like this,” said Daugherty.
The store was closed at the time.
The owners say they’ve been hit before, so they started taking the money out of the register at night.
They don’t believe the burglar got away with much.
Daugherty says he’s been living in the area for years and the crime is a big issue in Jackson.
“It’s getting worse all over town. You just have to be diligent about where you’re at. Keep your eyeballs, keep your minds about you. Just make sure you know where you’re at and what you’re doing at the particular time,” said Daugherty.
Daugherty also has a message to the people involved in Tuesday’s break in and others committing crimes around the city.
“Get a job. Man up, get a job. There’s programs out there to help you get a job if need be. That’s what I would say to these kind of people,” said Daugherty.
Surveillance video only shows one person behind the counter but the owners say they believe more people may be involved.
