Mississippi State introduces Cohen as new athletic director

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WJTV) – After signing an extension with a new title of associate athletic director in late July, it didn’t take now former Mississippi State baseball coach John Cohen long to take over the full title of athletic director.

The university introduced Cohen as its 17th athletic director in school history Friday afternoon.

Cohen replaces Scott Stricklin, who became the University of Florida’s athletic director in September. Multiple outlets are reporting LSU hitting coach Andy Cannizaro will replace Cohen as Mississippi State’s baseball coach.

Cannizaro has been at LSU since 2014. He spent five years as a scout for the New York Yankees and is also a former MLB infielder.

Cohen was the head baseball coach at the school since 2009, leading the Bulldogs to a College World Series appearance, a SEC regular season title, and SEC tournament title. During his tenure, MSU has had 135 players selected in the Major League Baseball Draft.
