UPDATE: 11/06/2016 2:56pm STARKVILLE, Miss. (WJTV) – Two men and two teenagers have been arrested for the death of a Mississippi State University student.
Joseph Tillman, 21, was shot on Maxwell Street in Starkville early Sunday morning; Tillman is a senior, from Schlater, Mississippi, according to a press release by the Starkville Police Department’s Facebook page.
Starkville Police say the shooting is related to an attempted robbery.
Jaylen M. Barker, 20, has been charged with murder; Jamario Pippins, 22,, Tyler Harris, 16, and Brandon Sherrod, 19, have been charged with murder as an accessory.
Barker has a $1,000,000 bond and Pippins, Harris, and Sherrod each have a $500,000 bond.
The suspects are currently in the Oktibbeha County Jail.
They each have initial court appearances on Monday, November 7, 2016, at 6:00 p.m.
This investigation is ongoing at this time.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, U. S Marshal Task Force, Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mississippi State Police Department are assisting the Starkville Police Department with the investigation.
UPDATE: 11/06/2016 10:14am MSU has released the following statement: “The MSU family is shocked and grieving over the loss of our fine student senior marketing major Joseph Tillman of Schlater. We are grateful to local law enforcement for their swift action in this case and are fully cooperating with their investigation. Counseling services are available for MSU students who need that service.”
UPDATE: 11/06/2016 10:00am MSU Communications Director Sid Slater told WJTV, “The university is shocked and grieving. Our heart goes out to Joseph’s family. We will be providing counseling to students.”
STARKVILLE, Mississippi (WJTV) A university is mourning the loss of one of its students.
MSU Communications Director Sid Slater is confirming that senior marketing major Joseph Tillman was shot and killed last night in the Cotton District (which is the part of the city where the bars are). Tillman is from Schlater, Mississippi. Police are investigating. A statement from the school is forthcoming.
