OXFORD, Miss. (AP) – The University of Mississippi this week will formally inaugurate Jeffrey S. Vitter as the school’s 17th chancellor.
The investiture ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts. It’s the centerpiece of a months-long celebration focused on the inauguration’s theme: “The Power of Higher Education to Transform Lives, Communities and World.”
The Oxford Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/2f85M23 ) the investiture of a university chancellor formally installs the institution’s highest-ranking officer, confers upon him the ceremonial accouterments of office, and gives the larger academic and civic communities an opportunity to convene and celebrate their shared values.
Vitter, former University of Kansas provost and executive vice chancellor, was named chancellor at Ole Miss on Oct. 29, 2015. He took office on Jan. 1.
