Teenager looks to make history as youngest election commissioner

FORREST COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – One teen is trying to make history as the youngest person to be an election commissioner ever.

A student at Pearl River Community College, 18-year-old Tyler Woods is running against the current District One Election Commissioner Charles Phillips.

Woods says it’s just his time; he just so happens to be a teenager and running for office.

The college student says his age has been a challenge for him to overcome but that just makes him want to work harder to win over the community.

“It does not help me at all. It actually makes it a little harder cause people would say, oh you’re too young to run or stuff like that but I have the energy, the knowledge and experience to do this job,” said Woods.

We reached out to Charles Phillips, Sr. for comment and to give him the opportunity for an interview, but we have not heard back at this.
