JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — The Mississippi Republican Party is celebrating a victory for President-elect Donald Trump.
A civil rights icon, Charles Evers, is also reacting to the win. He is the older brother to the late civil rights activist Medgar Evers.
Charles Evers has been a supporter of Trump and attended a Mississippi rally for the incoming president in Madison earlier this year.
WJTV caught up with him Wednesday to discuss Trump’s win.
“Trump is going to bring us together,” he said. “He’s going to bring some jobs. He’s going to stop all of our jobs leaving and going to Mexico. He’s going to keep them here. And he is going to stop all those people coming in from other countries for us to take care of them unless they come legally.”
Trump beat Hillary Clinton after earning more than 270 electoral votes in Tuesday’s general election.
