Jackson Police searching for suspect in fatal shooting on University Boulevard

UPDATE: 11/10/2016 8:38am Jackson Police Department Commander Tyree Jones has issued the following statement regarding last night’s shooting.

The statement reads as follows:

“On Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at approx. 11:00PM, Jackson Police Officers responded to Shell Service Station at 1141 University Boulevard regarding a shooting. Upon officers’ arrival, it was learned that a victim, later identified as Deswaund Bell, 21, had been shot multiple times while inside the location. He was transported to UMMC where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.

During the course of the investigation, it was learned that the victim was involved in an altercation with an unidentified black male subject while inside the store. The suspect, armed with a handgun fired several shots striking the victim. The suspect fled the scene on foot to an unknown location. The suspect was wearing a black shirt, dark jeans with a black/white skull cap.

JACKSON, Mississippi (WJTV) Police are searching for the suspect in the murder of a 21-year-old who was shot multiple times last night in Jackson.

The suspect is described as a black male who was last seen wearing jeans and a black shirt.

The shooting took place at approximately 11:00pm on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the Shell Station located at 1141 University Boulevard .

The victim has been identified as Deswaund Bell.  He was pronounced dead at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC).

The JPD says there is no known motive at this time.  Anyone with information that may be helpful to police is being asked to call them at: (601) 960.1234.

The homicide marks Jackson’s 57th of the year.
