(WJTV) — Dozens of people, family, friends and special guests were here at the State Veterans Home Friday for Veterans Day.
The Jackson State University Color Guard participated in the celebration. There was music and snacks as well.
Veterans Day started as Armistice Day in 1919 at the end of WWI. Ninety-seven years later, we celebrate the now national holiday.
Brigadier General Robert Crear was the guest speaker.
“Fortunately, this country is blessed with citizens who have taken their civic responsibility seriously and have taken up arms,” he said.
Throughout the week, the State Veterans Home quizzed the residents on trivia about Veterans Day and the military.
They were given small prizes for answering some of the questions correctly.
